Match Report
Bishop Vesey's Grammar School Boys-U13B vs  King Edward VI Five Ways School
On: Thursday, 26 May 2022
Venue: at Home

The U13B’s took their game to a new level yesterday, cruising home by 52 runs.

Batting first, Vesey confounded Coach and critics by posting 169-0 in their twenty overs. Old hands scrabbled through the school annals but conceded that this could be a first.

Tom Perry showed what a talent he is, scoring 55 not out in an innings of poise and maturity which included 9 x 4’s. Before being retired he and Aveer Gill put on 120- which may also be a record for a B team game. Aveer’s contribution of 43 not out should also be commended. Five Ways massaged the scoring with an imaginative collection of wides and no balls.

In no time at all Five Ways were 19-4, Kalvin Sandhu bagging 2-5. However with extras comfortably leading the way, the scoreboard fairly rattled round and they were up with the rate. Enter James Bigge to break a key partnership, followed swiftly by two run outs. The second of these was a brilliant direct hit by Kalvin with only one stump to aim at. Had he not attempted the same thing another 4 times (instead of lobbing to the bowler/keeper) we would all have been home earlier.

Five Ways slender hopes hung on their big hitter Aarhan. But Samar Singh’s David slew his Goliath by tossing one up above the eye line and the game was done. Dhruv Madriki chipped in with a wicket on debut and some bizarre running between the wickets created a total of 4 run outs.

Things to work on- the 53 extras conceded. Am considering introducing ramps on the wide lines like they do in the bowling alleys. Nothing else seems to work!
